Wewahitchka Busted Arrests
Wewahitchka has no police force of its own. A city agenda documents the GCSO law-enforcement contract, which hands policing to Sheriff Mike Harrison's office. So a missing city arrest log is not a search problem. There is no municipal department, no daily bulletin, and no city booking-photo policy to find anywhere.
The sheriff's office creates the arrest record itself. People picked up in and around Wewahitchka get booked at Gulf County Detention Facility, a county-operated jail. That split matters. GCSO keeps investigative and arrest material, detention staff hold the booking and custody file, and the Gulf County Clerk runs the court docket. The jail is not sheriff-operated, even when GCSO made the arrest.
Wewahitchka counted 2,074 residents in the April 1, 2020 Census. Small town or not, the custodian you pick decides whether you get an answer. A city clerk holds city business records, but a report does not become a sheriff arrest report just because the incident fell inside city limits. One more wrinkle exists. Gulf Correctional Institution sits in Wewahitchka, yet that state prison is not where new local arrests get booked.
Where Wewahitchka Mugshots Appear
Each official source answers a different question. The GCSO Arrests page posts recent bookings with photographs, though only for a rolling window. The sheriff's app offers a current-inmate search. The detention facility confirms custody directly and keeps written jail records. The clerk tracks the case after charges are filed. None of these can be swapped for a city blotter, because no such blotter exists.
| Channel | Photo? | Authority | What it answers |
|---|---|---|---|
| GCSO Arrests | Yes | Official sheriff source | Recent GCSO-published arrest entries, shown about two weeks |
| GCSO app | Unconfirmed | Official sheriff source | Current inmates and a separate recent-arrests function |
| Gulf County Detention Facility | By request | Official county source | Present custody and jail booking or release records |
| Gulf Clerk record search | No photo feed | Official court source | Case number, filed charge, events, and disposition |
| GulfCounty.news Crime | Sometimes | Local news | Selected Wewahitchka investigations and court stories |
| WJHG Gulf | Sometimes | Regional news | Selected county reports and agency-supplied images |
| RecentlyBooked Gulf | Often | Unofficial | Countywide secondary results, with no Wewahitchka page |
| Arrests.org Gulf | When available | Unofficial | County landing that can carry Wewahitchka labels |
| Mugshots.com Gulf | Older entries | Unofficial, stale | Historical Wewahitchka filter with visible years ending in 2021 at research |
Treat unofficial sites as leads, not answers. RecentlyBooked's claimed update schedule is a promise from the site, not the county. Arrests.org has shown empty recent results. Mugshots.com runs stale listings and labels people as suspects. A third-party match can point you toward a date, but check the official record and the clerk's docket before trusting the details.
Who Got Busted in Wewahitchka
Work in time order. The recent-arrest page helps while its display window lasts. The app or a direct call to the facility answers whether someone is still locked up. Once a listing comes off the web, a records request brings it back. Court records then show what prosecutors filed and what the judge recorded.
- Search the GCSO Arrests page by name. Compare the arrest date, charge text, agency, and page timestamp.
- Check the official GCSO app for current inmate status. Do not assume its result includes a photo because the store description does not promise one.
- Call Gulf County Detention Facility at 850-227-1124 when custody status needs direct confirmation.
- Request the sheriff arrest report or image from GCSO and the booking or release file from the detention facility if the web item has aged out.
- Use the Gulf Clerk search to follow filed charges, hearings, pleas, orders, dismissal, acquittal, or judgment.
- If the person later entered state prison or felony supervision, use the FDC Corrections Offender Network.
Release from the county jail drops a person from current-inmate results, but the arrest file survives. A state-prison sentence moves the custody search to FDC. Federal custody calls for federal tools. The Gulf County busted mugshots hub lays out those county, state, and federal lines in full.
Note: Search spelling variants, then compare dates and agencies; a name alone is not enough to prove two entries concern the same person.
Wewahitchka Busted Record Requests
GCSO provides the policing. So requests for a Wewahitchka arrest report or sheriff-held photograph go to the Gulf County Sheriff's Office. Mail can be sent to ATTN: Records Custodian at the Port St. Joe headquarters. The sheriff publishes no web form, fee schedule, request email, or fixed turnaround. Keep the request narrow. Include a full name, an approximate arrest date, the arresting agency, and the exact record sought.
The detention facility is the separate route. It handles booking cards, intake photos, custody and release records, and commitment lists. Ask for electronic delivery and a cost estimate up front. Florida public-record law grants access subject to exemptions and allows authorized charges, though a clerk court-copy fee or a city copy charge is not the sheriff's rate.

Keep the written response and any exemption citation. Start with the agency that created or holds the record. GCSO and the detention facility work hand in hand after an arrest, but neither one automatically holds every document the other keeps.
Wewahitchka City Records
The city clerk still matters for records Wewahitchka government created itself, such as agendas and contracts. The city posts an official public-record request form. It promises release within a reasonable time, says records stay with the clerk or inside the city facility, and warns that copy charges may apply. No set amount is listed.

Do not route an arrest-report request to the city just because the incident happened there. With no municipal police force, GCSO holds the arrest record in the normal Wewahitchka case. The city form covers city-created documents. The county jail keeps detention material. The clerk of court keeps the criminal case.
Is there a Wewahitchka police report? A report can exist for conduct in the city. But it is a GCSO record, not something from a municipal department that does not exist. Give the sheriff the event, the date, and the person's name so the file can be found.
How Long Busted Entries Last
Photos on the official GCSO arrests page stay up for roughly two weeks. After that, the tile disappears. Gulf County runs no same-day, 48-hour, 72-hour, or weekly arrest page. So an entry appearing late is normal, and its timestamp reflects posting rather than the actual date of the bust.
Keep two facts separate here. A photo tile online does not mean someone is still in custody. A tile dropping off does not mean release. One person can bond out while the GCSO entry lingers; another stays jailed long after the photo vanishes. The current-inmate search or a call to the detention facility answers custody questions directly, and for anyone already released, the prior booking and release record is the document to request.
Florida's GS2 schedule requires the underlying booking record to be retained at least until one anniversary year after release. That rule sets a floor, not a deadline. An agency may hold the file longer or file it under a different record series. For an old Wewahitchka booking, ask GCSO and the facility directly which record survives and which office holds it now.
County Booking or State Prison
Searches for Wewahitchka names trip over one confusion: Gulf Correctional Institution sits in the same city. That prison belongs to the Florida Department of Corrections and houses sentenced state offenders. The local booking point is different. Gulf County Detention Facility in Port St. Joe takes in people newly arrested in Wewahitchka and handles local pretrial custody.
| Custody stage | Correct source | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Recently arrested | GCSO Arrests | Short-term agency publication, not proof of present custody |
| Currently held locally | GCSO app or county facility | Point-in-time county detention status |
| Released from local jail | Facility record and clerk case | Past custody plus the continuing prosecution record |
| Sentenced to state corrections | FDC offender search | State prison or felony supervision after disposition |
An FDC profile can show a photograph and offense details. It is still not a Wewahitchka booking record. Seeing someone there does not mean a fresh city arrest went straight to state prison. Work the county path first. Move to FDC only once the court outcome and state-corrections status line up with it.
Wewahitchka Busted News Sources
Two outlets cover this area. GulfCounty.news keeps a crime archive with selected Wewahitchka investigations and court stories. WJHG runs a Gulf County feed. It sometimes prints a mugshot, but only when an agency supplies one. Neither works as a full arrest blotter. A quiet stretch in the headlines proves nothing about how many arrests actually happened.
The Wewa News adds community flavor. It bills itself as “Good News and Whatever.” There is no crime category, though. You will not find an arrest log or a regular mugshot feature there. The Calhoun-Liberty Journal Area Arrests section occasionally republishes a GCSO item touching north Gulf County. Its regular log really serves Calhoun and Liberty counties. It is not Gulf County's arrest register.
Start with the sheriff and detention sources. Then read the reporting for context. The wider Crime News & Mugshots page maps the story-to-record route. Headlines capture a single moment. A clerk's docket tells the fuller story, whether that means an amended charge, no filing, a dismissal, an acquittal, a plea, or a judgment.
Note: BustedNewspaper and Mugshots.zone had no verified Gulf County section, so neither supplies a valid Wewahitchka local page.
